It's an auspicious time to launch a new business devoted to organic fibers. Recently I learned that the United Nations committee on agriculture has declared 2009 the International Year of Natural Fibres. If a huge multinational organization is promoting natural above synthetic, you know the movement has real momentum!
They emphasize "natural" rather than "organic", but it's a step in the right direction.
According to the site, natural fibers (fibres for my UK friends!) are
- healthier,
- more economically responsible for developing nations,
- more environmentally sustainable,
- good for high tech uses like automobile parts,
- and of course, they are fashionable.
I couldn't agree more!
